Millions of producers around the world supply us with the ingredients for the products that stock our grocery stores, favourite cafés and homes. As consumers we are often led to believe that the price we pay covers the costs of production and provides farmers with a sustainable livelihood. Unfortunately, the reality is often quite different.

Food travels many miles along the ‘camino’, or path, from farmers’ fields in developing countries to your home. Under the traditional free trade economic system, the producers who harvest these goods have little bargaining power and receive limited returns. Instead, powerful intermediaries control the supply chain and reap the benefits. This means that only a very small portion of your money actually reaches the producers.

Therefore, we’re creating a new ‘camino’ – one that reconnects consumers with the producers who grow and harvest these products. At La Siembra we have direct relationships with co-operatives in the South and work closely with our producer partners. All of our products are Fair Trade Certified and organic and provide you, the consumer, with an opportunity to guarantee that farmers are getting a better deal and can plan for their future.
